Coast to Coast
This exhibition was the culmination of two years of painting and travelling.
Several years before, I had walked the Coast to Coast path from St Bees Head on the Northumbrian coast of England to Robin Hoods Bay on the North Yorkshire coast. It is a walk of about 220 miles and passes through the Lake District, across The Pennines, and the Yorkshire moors.
It holds a special place in my memory.
I had a sketch book and made many sketches along the way, and produced several paintings after the trip. I revisited the Lake District prior to this exhibition and this series of work was based on reflections and memories of these places, combined with other travels in Europe, Africa, Asia and within Australia.
The coastal paintings also reflect my love of the beaches, coastal pools, and estuaries in and around Sydney, where I grew up and now live.
